| Koinos Learning Opportunity |
25 August 2009
Dear Colleague in Ministry:
Greetings in our Savior’s name! I am writing to inform you of an “equipping” opportunity our church will be providing to the people of area churches this coming year (September through June). Dr. Ward Gasque, a member of the founding faculty of Regent College and current English Ministries Pastor at Richmond Chinese Alliance Church, has asked Sevenoaks Alliance to serve as one of three Lower Mainland venues for the offering of a 10-seminar series in Christian Foundations titled “Koinos.” The program has been devised by Pacific Association for Theological Studies (Seattle), a collection of churches and educational institutions linked together to make theological education accessible to laypeople in the in the Pacific Northwest. Ward, authorized by his church to promote this program, is serving as Dean for the Lower Mainland offerings.
The seminars, scheduled for one Saturday per month at each venue, run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include lunch. The 10-part series will be offered at Lord’s Grace Church in Vancouver on the first Saturday of each month, commencing Sept. 5th; the third Saturday at Sevenoaks Alliance, starting Sept. 19th; and the fourth Saturday at West Vancouver Baptist, beginning Sept. 26th. Richmond Chinese Alliance, which very successfully ran this “100 level” Foundations program last year (with an average of about 120 people in attendance), will be offering a whole new set of seminars at the 200 level. The charge for the entire series is $250, but people can instead pick and choose individual seminars at a cost of $30 each. A detailed set of notes (up to 50 pages per seminar) will be provided for each participant.
Most of the participating faculty members are well known throughout Lower Mainland Christian academic and church circles. We have yet to confirm the involvement of two participants, but here is the list of dates, topics, and participants for the Sevenoaks Alliance site:
Sept. 19, 2009 Old Testament 101 Dr. Carl Armerding
Oct. 31, 2009 New Testament 101 Dr. Ward Gasque
Nov. 21, 2009 Christian Ethics 101 Dr. Jonathan Wilson
Dec. 19, 2009 Christian Theology 101 Dr. Archie Spencer
Jan. 16, 2010 Christian Worship 101 Brian Moss
Feb. 20, 2010 Global Mission 101 (to be confirmed)
Mar. 20, 2010 Christian Ministry 101 Dr. Paul Stevens
April 17, 2010 Christianity and the Arts 101 Laurel Gasque
May 15, 2010 History of Christianity 101 Gary Roosma
June 19, 2010 Christian Spirituality 101 (to be confirmed)
We would be grateful if you would bring this program to the attention of your church family. Our Sevenoaks Alliance Koinos coordinator, Dr. Deane Downey (formerly Associate Academic Vice President at Trinity Western University), will be in contact with your church shortly to provide a couple of posters and a small supply of application forms. More information about Koinos, including a downloadable application form, will be available on our website, www.sevenoaks.org.
Warmly,
Errol Rempel
Lead Pastor

Parents Research Group (BC) is a movement dedicated to protecting the rights of parents. Parents are to be the ones to teach their children their traditional moral and religious values. If schools take on this responsibility then who is to know which values are being taught? If students are taught values that don't reflect the values of the parents then what will be the result? Will that not be indoctrination? Will that not be social engineering? We are assembling thousands of names who will protest to the Ministry of Education the current revision of the curriculum that is intended to give a favourable portrayal of the homosexuality. We promote that there should not be any gender promotion. For further information contact Len Remple by email at lenremple@shaw.ca |
